Foreign Investments Rose by 28.8% in the First Months of 2017 in Turkey

Foreign direct investments amounted to 4.9 billion USD in Turkey up to this point

Turkey still remains an attractive country for foreign investors, with trading and tourism on top of the industries preferred by business people. The amount injected by them in the Turkish economy rose to 4.9 billion US dollars between January and August, 28.8% more than during the same period of last year when the investments rose to 3,7 billion USD.

At European level, Turkey surpassed countries popular among foreign investors, such as the Netherlands, Austria, Azerbaijan and Spain. Also, most of the investors came from European countries, however Asian ones have also contributed to the economy.

79% of the foreign investments came from Europe

According to the Turkish National Bank most the foreign investors setting up businesses in Turkey came from Europe this year. The percentage was of 79%, the rest belonging to Asian investors. The amounts raised from European foreign investments rose to 3,8 billion USD during the first 8 months of the year. Asian investors also put 825 million USD, 5.4% more than last year.

Dutch investors brought the largest capital to Turkey: they invested 1,5 million USD, the equivalent of 30.9% of the total foreign investments registered during this period.

The Turkish economy is following an upward trend as recent reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced an economic increase higher than expected. The foreign direct investments increase also contributed to the new results.
