Economic confidence in Turkey in 2017 and the beginning of 2018

The Economic Confidence Index is a complex report based on the perceptions of both producers and consumers on the economy, as well as on their expectations for the near future. The index is based on several sub-indexes related to the consumers confidence in several industries among which manufacturing, services, retail, construction and trade.

2017 was a good year for the Turkish economy based on this index which indicated the highest confidence among investors and consumers in the months of July and August. Even if at the end of the year, the index registered a lower value of 95.3%, it increased by 10% - 104.9% - in January 2018.

The growth registered at the beginning of this year is based on the higher purchase power of consumers in the manufacturing, services, construction and retail sectors.

Turkey’s Economic Confidence Index decreased slightly in February

The last index which was released at the end of February indicates a 1% drop in the economic confidence of consumers, the main decrease being related to the construction sector.

In order to counter the negative effects of such drop, the government is currently trying to stimulate economic growth through loan guarantees and incentives for those buying real estate properties, as constructions remains one of the most appealing investment industries in Turkey.
